In this week’s edition of Sunday Snippets 6.22.25…

It was cool when I had supper at Kendra’s house on Wednesday evening. Then overnight, it got very hot. By the way, she made chicken alfredo, which was delicious.

Kendra, Marley, her friend Molly, and I had supper together. Riley had a Zoom class, so he was in his room. Then Kendra and I sat out on her patio for a while, and it was pretty pleasant. She has had very little of her patio renovation done because she only has one steady guy working for her right now. And she has him working on her flip house in Sand Springs.

For whatever reason, it’s tough to get good workers these days. This guy helped her with my hose setup by the front porch. She can only spread the manpower so thin, so she puts off her home projects.

But I believe she’s almost done with the flip house. Then she has work for other investors she’ll be working on.

Office Curtains:

We hung black-and-white checked curtains on the office window. I’ll show you this week.

I’m working on getting curtains hung in every room because the sun is intense coming in from the south and west. Then I’ll be done with projects for the house for the most part.

I have area rugs in every room. That took me months of ordering and purchasing.

I purchased a curtain (green and cream) before Christmas, but I hadn’t figured out where I wanted to hang it. This curtain is 96 inches long, so that particular length of curtain will either be on the three windows in the guest bedroom or the living room. I decide as I get to each room.

What I’m Watching On TV – True Detective

Image of the series True Detective with Woody Harrelson and Matthew Matthew McConaughey.

I’m still watching True Detective on HBO. It’s an American anthology crime drama.

The second season of True Detective wasn’t as enjoyable as the first, which took place in Louisiana and featured Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. However, the first season was outstanding, so I don’t think it could be beaten easily.

This second season, set in California, stars Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Kelly Reilly, and Rachel McAdams.

I’m now on the third season, which is more interesting than the second.

I read that the fifth season is in production, but is not expected until 2027. The series began in 2014.

The Book I’m Reading – Single Black Female

In Sunday Snippets 6.22.25, the book I'm currently reading is Single Black Female by Tracy Brown.
Amazon

Summary:

In the novel Single Black Female, Ivy Donovan is a successful stylist, entrepreneur, and single mom. She has been loyal to her sons’ father, Michael, who is serving a lengthy prison sentence. But life has gotten lonely, and Ivy wants more for herself. Michael, however, isn’t about to lose his family.

Coco Norris is well-off, single, childless, and struggling with her allegiance to emotionally unavailable men. When she finds a man who seems like he can give her everything she has ever wanted, Coco soon discovers she has taken on more than she can handle.

Deja Maddox is a real estate agent who is married to Bobby, a police sergeant with the NYPD. They reject anything that doesn’t fit their buttoned-up, polished life. But Deja isn’t as satisfied as she would like everyone to believe. When Deja’s past returns with a vengeance, her “perfect” life begins to crumble.

Nikki Diamond is a savvy, self-made businesswoman and social media darling who lives large and has no regrets. She’s also Deja’s little sister and thinks her sister can have so much more than her ho-hum marriage. And Nikki is all too happy to lend a “helping” hand to make that happen.

Things come to a head when Ivy’s youngest son, Kingston, is caught up in a polarizing encounter with the NYPD. Everyone must figure out where they stand, including Bobby, who suddenly has to decide if his “blue life” matters more to him than the black lives of those he loves.

  1. Are your new kittens, Simon and Daisy doing okay? I don’t see any photos of them anywhere on your website now?

    Good evening Brenda,
Our pleasant, cool mornings and open window weather has passed until at least October. It is going to be over 100 this week for 1-2 days. I hope that your new curtains keep some of the heat out.
It sounds like you have a wonderful night with your daughter.
    Have a beautiful week.
    p.s. I love your flowers

  3. The purple pot of flowers are gorgeous. Same here, our pleasant weather is gone, and the heat is here. Hoping it doesn’t last long. Anxious to see your office curtains. You have such good taste and ideas to decorate Mamie. Nice spending time together with your family. Have a nice Sunday with the kitties.

  4. Hi Brenda, I have enjoyed your blog for years. It seems you have a new format for your blog,
I love reading your older posts, however the size of the script is now seriously smaller and for me, very challenging to try to read.
Just wondered if you knew this. Thanks Brenda

The first potted plant that comes up is so beautiful. I have a wheel barrel planted with flowers that are just past their prime. I’m thinking of putting a collection for succulents in it.

You have done so much to Mamie in such a short time. I am so happy for you as you sound so content.

  6. Yes, the East coast is blazing today and all week. Glad you got to enjoy supper and a visit with your family. Take care and have a great week everyone!
