Earlier this morning, I baked a cinnamon streusel coffee cake. The scent is permeating the house. In a little while, I’ll have a slice and drink my morning cup of coffee. I just drink one cup a day.

I got up this morning, whipped up this coffee cake, and had a bowl of granola with blueberries.

Now I’m seated here and listening to the morning news on my laptop. I’m still adjusting to the time change. It usually takes me a few days to adapt.

I stayed home over the weekend, as I typically do. Talked to Rhonda on the phone a few times. Worked on this blog.

I never take days off. But then I love writing; I love writing to all of you. I’ve been doing this for 17 years, since I was in my early 50s.

I’m not as agile, and I move slower. A cane has become my best friend, and a wheelchair sits in the guest room should I need it.

But my enthusiasm is still there. I wish I could do more. Take on DIY projects, garden with more gusto, and walk through stores for inspiration. But you learn to adapt to your circumstances.

Embrace New Possibilities:

In life, you have to let go of what’s no longer possible and embrace what is. You learn to adjust instead of dwelling on what’s behind you. Find new hobbies and use this time in life to learn new things.

If it’s raining, you grab an umbrella before you head out the door. You adjust to things you cannot change. Life is not all that different if you stop and reframe things in a new way.

Sometimes you just modify what you were already doing and be happy regardless.

Kendra’s Quiche & Porch House Plants:

On Thursday, Kendra surprised me with a whole quiche, and it sure was good. It was so nice that she cooked one for me and another one for her family. No meat, just veggies, and that’s how I like quiche.

I usually eat salad with quiche, but I didn’t have any lettuce. But that meant I didn’t have to think through what I was going to eat for a few days. That’s usually the big question of the day.

On Friday, I sat on my little garden cart and dug a few inches of soil out of the houseplants that needed to come inside. I replaced the first couple of inches with fresh potting soil.

Then I brought them inside, a few at a time. So far I haven’t seen any insects, so I hope that did the trick. I just wasn’t up to completely repotting them all. They’re on display on the baker’s rack in the little office where there’s more natural light.

The New Dish Display Rack:

As neighbors, we help one another, because that’s what neighbors should do.

My kitchen and new dish display rack.

Randy’s lawn mower quit on him, so I bought him a new one a few weeks ago. In exchange, I asked him to build a dish display rack for my kitchen wall.

He hasn’t been feeling well, so it isn’t on the wall yet, as you can see. It will hang on the wall just above where it’s sitting now, at about eye level. Maybe I can move the painting down toward the corner and the pantry.

I can’t wait to play with dishes and arrange them so I can see them. I’ll be able to take dishware out of a cupboard in the dining room and put my collection on display again.

So there’s that to look forward to! I’ll take lots of photos to show you.

Killvester the Porch Cat:

For some reason, I cannot get a clear, focused photo of this stray cat. He looks like he’s seen a few battles, doesn’t he? He’s the cat that I see the most out there.

Now Killvester is in one of the porch chairs. He sleeps in one of the two orthopedic beds I put out there. For a time, he’ll choose one bed. Then I’ll look outside, and he’ll be sleeping in the other one.

I may as well call him a porch cat, because he isn’t really a stray anymore, I suppose. He’s so sweet, but he won’t let me pet him yet. Still, whenever I go out to feed him, I talk to him and tell him he’s a good boy.

Don’t you think everyone, even cats, needs someone to talk to them sweetly?

Daisy, Simon, and Ivy are off having their morning nap somewhere. Then when they wake up, Simon will be full of energy and zoom around the house making his strange little noises.

Ivy and Daisy will sit and watch him and his obvious exuberance. That cat sure has a lot of energy.

Now it’s time for a warm slice of cinnamon streusel coffee cake and my morning cup of coffee.

Remember to go vote tomorrow if you haven’t already! I already voted early. It seems that there’s more turnout this year.

Let’s hope for more peace and less anger that’s been tearing this country apart.

I’m sure loving this cooler fall season!

Thank you for voting! Sounds like a strange thing to thank someone for, but many don’t bother, and it is so important this year. I truly feel Democracy is on the line. I voted by mail-in ballot last week, but opted to hand-delivered ballot in-person to the Elections Office – watched the clerk feed it into the Counter. What a good feeling! Next day I received an e-mail telling me my ballot had been processed. No drama no shenanigans.
