Today in Sunday Snippets for the week of 4.20.25…

It has rained all weekend. I suppose hiding eggs for the kiddos is kind of a bust today.

On Friday, Steve and I took my old car to his mechanic to have it checked out. I want to reduce the chance that I will be stuck on the side of the road with car trouble, but then you never really know what is going to happen.

They told me it was fine. The front brakes have 30% life left in them, and the back brakes have 15-20% life left. Only one end of the brakes has ever been replaced in the 19 years I’ve owned it, so I’m not surprised.

The total bill with the oil change and checkup was $82.

How My Knee Is Doing:

I’ve found less pain in my right knee when I wear the knee brace, so I’ve been pretty diligent about strapping it on in the morning.

Greg says cartilage breaks down, and our parts wear out. Our body parts are all interrelated, so one thing affects another.

I’m not having much trouble with my left knee, though it has some arthritic changes.

Gardening:

I’ve had so much fun potting plants in my front yard beds and on the porch. To keep the look cohesive, I chose blue and green pots. My flower colors are purple, pink, and a bit of yellow.

It was fairly cold yesterday, so I stayed inside.

The Kitties:

The kittens are wild as ever. Simon knows how to stop up the drain in the bathtub to make a puddle for him to drink from. I’ll go in there and open it, and he’ll follow behind and push it down again. Ivy likes to drink dripping water, or I’d turn it off.

Daisy is finally becoming sociable with people who visit. Steve played with all three of them on Friday.

He and I had breakfast at our usual spot, the Wildflower Cafe, and it was my treat for his helping me with the transportation with my car. He’s the only person I’ve seen regularly from the apartments since I moved.

I see Steve about once a month because the place where he gets his hair cut isn’t far from here. We usually have lunch on that day, which is typically a Friday.

I heard that Ron and Pat, who are in their nineties, have moved to assisted living.

What I’m Watching:

I finished watching the last season of Bosch, which has 7 seasons. I really enjoyed this show. Then I can watch Bosch: Legacy. All of the Bosch stories come from Michael Connelly’s novels.

I always feel sad when I finish watching a series with more than 1-2 seasons. Because I feel like I get to know the characters and will miss them when I move on to another show.

Amazon

I began watching City Homicide on Prime Video, a series from 2006 to 2011. It is an Australian police procedural.

The series was set on the Homicide floor of a metropolitan police headquarters in Melbourne. The main characters were six detectives who solved murder cases, and their three superior officers.

What I’m Reading:

Amazon

Last night, I began reading The Night Olivia Fell. The novel starts with a bang, and instantly, I’m wondering what could possibly have happened to Olivia. I love books that keep me guessing.

In The Night Olivia Fell, Abi Knight is startled awake in the wee hours of the morning by the phone call no mother ever wants to get: her teenage daughter Olivia has fallen off a bridge. Not only is Olivia brain-dead, she’s pregnant and must remain on life support to keep her baby alive. And then Abi sees the angry bruises circling Olivia’s wrists.

When the police unexpectedly rule Olivia’s fall an accident, Abi decides to find out what really happened that night. Heartbroken and grieving, she unravels the threads of her daughter’s life. Was Olivia’s fall an accident? Or something far more sinister?

  1. Hi Brenda. Happy belated Easter. I’m a little late reading this post. The holidays have kept me busy. I am so happy that you and Steve have remained friends! I’ll bet Ivy is happy to see him too! It’s kinda sad to hear that Ron and Pat have moved to assisted living. I guess it’s good that they are together at least. Do you have their phone number to call them? I’m sure they would like to hear from you. Your kitties are so cute! I love hearing about all the funny personality traits. They’re so entertaining. I’m looking forward to seeing your garden come into full bloom. I’m sure it will be spectacular!

I had thought maybe our next door neighbors would keep some contact after they moved out last Sept. But we have not heard a single word. And then we moved too in Feb. But long ago I realized that the old song of our youth that went, “If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you are with” and I have felt ever since that fits a great majority of folks in our lifetime. They were friends and good ones but when they moved, they just apparently became good friends then to people in that place. People move so often today that if one does not keep contact, eventually you can loose track of them. I find it extra strange when the past couple decades communication has never been easier and quicker too. Guess that is how it is meant to be…so nice that Steve has continued to visit you and kitties.

  3. Have you been able to find out from Steve who is living in your previous apartment? Are they appreciative of the garden improvements you made?

    1. Steve hasn’t seen her. But Lisa told me a woman in her late 80s moved in, and that she rarely goes outside.

  4. How nice that Steve still comes to visit you. I didn’t realize Ron and Pat were in their 90’s (I remember you talking about them when you lived in the apt).

We just finished watching season 3 of White Lotus and started Friends and Neighbors (Apple TV) today.

    1. I haven’t tried Apple TV yet. I have Netflix and Prime Video, and Britbox and Acorn TV tacked on with Prime.

    Happy Easter,
Brenda🌷Love the story of the kitties in the bathtub. Can’t wait to see more pictures of your pots. i bought some planters from Costco last year and was hoping to get more this year but they aren’t carrying them. May have to resort to Walmart and see what I can find. Enjoy your day🌷💜🌸

    1. I was just looking online at galvanized tubs at Walmart. Doubt I’ll order more.

  6. Do you think taking a collagen supplement (as a powder) could help? We all get achy and stiff as we age, and I’ve read it can help. Glad to hear that you and Steve keep in touch. Moving away or changing jobs always showed me who my true friends were. Your pots will be beautiful because they always are!

    1. Yes, I tried that. Didn’t seem like it helped.

  7. Happy Easter to you, the furbabies and to everyone. So anxious to see all of your flowers when you are finished and your colors sound beautiful. Glad the brace is helping your knee. Have a wonderful day enjoying the kitties entertaining you and thank you for sharing your interesting ‘tidbits’ with us.

    1. It has rained and rained. My backyard is standing in water.
