This week in Sunday Snippets 4.27.25…
Isn’t the pink columbine gorgeous? The pink plant is doing better than the purple plant. I have not planted columbine before, but maybe once.

On Friday, a dental crown on the right side of my mouth fell out. Unfortunately, I thought the intrusion was just a bit of food, and my tongue kept going to it until it finally fell out.
Dental Appointment:
I made an appointment with an ER dentist because the area where it had been was sharp on the inside. I learned that when a dentist says “emergency,” it doesn’t always mean they’re there. It took a lot of calling to find someone who could see me on Friday and not next Tuesday.
It was called Dental Depot.
I was filling out paperwork on a tablet when I heard this weird sound. Then I saw a miniature train rolling down its tracks on a shelf above my head—somewhat bigger than what I’d consider miniature.
I understand a child might find this appealing, but I did not. It went through every room through holes near the ceiling. It was disconcerting, like a clock that keeps ticking, but louder.
The dentist looked like he wasn’t a day over 14, and I could tell from his speech that he often deals with children. “Good job! You’re doing great!”
Temporary Crown:
They no longer have to create a mold like in the past and work it in until it fits. Now it’s all computerized. They send it to a lab somewhere while you’re there, and then send your temporary crown back entirely made.
I was given the “cash only/no insurance” rate and 5% off if I paid in full. So, the bill came to under $1100. Crowns these days are over $1600.
I asked about doing something about the hole in my mouth where the tooth was extracted last year. When they called me to see about something permanent, I was packing to move here, so I haven’t gotten to that yet.
And I might not. They can’t do a permanent tooth because there isn’t enough bone in my upper jaw to support a dental implant. A sinus lift procedure would be necessary. This procedure involves lifting the sinus membrane and adding bone graft material to create enough space for the implant.
So, I guess it would probably have to be a bridge instead, which costs around $4000. I think I’ll just have to live with it for a while.
The Kitties:
Simon is making a lot of noise right now. He is hyper this morning, and I can hear him running underneath and around the rug in the dining room with a toy he pushes underneath. Daisy is resting in one of the cat trees, but she raises her head when she hears him.
Sometimes it is hard to believe that one cat can make so much noise. He leaps from one piece of furniture to another, making weird barking seal noises. I have never heard this noise come from a cat before.
Ivy and Daisy like to follow a shaft of sunlight that appears on the living room wall late in the afternoon. They stare at it and walk around trying to figure out how to get to it. Simon seems oblivious to the shaft of sunlight.

I bought several versions of petunias and million bells for this year’s annual garden. This reddish-purple petunia (according to my childhood crayon colors) is so lovely.
I have purples, pinks, and yellow petunias in one shade or another. Petunias remind me of umbrellas turned inside out. Their little capped flowers catch raindrops.
What I’m Watching:

I’m still watching Bosch: Legacy, and really enjoying it. It is almost as good as the first Bosch. I hate that they are closing this chapter after the third season.
They are coming out with a spin-off featuring a new character, but I am not interested in a younger character. I think they will see that that is a mistake, and we “older” folks might not “take” to the new character just because of her age.
The new character is an actress who calls herself “Maggie Q (Margaret Denise Quigley).
What I’m Reading:

On Friday, I finished reading The Night Olivia Fell, and began reading All The Little Raindrops by Mia Sheridan.
All The Little Raindrops is a chilling story of the abduction of two teenagers, their escape, and the dark secrets that, years later, bring them back to the scene of the crime.
It’s senior-year spring break, and Noelle Meyer and Evan Sinclair have been kidnapped. Neither knows why they were chosen, only that they share a tragic past: Evan’s father got away with killing Noelle’s mother, effectively ruining her family when the death was ruled an accident.
Despite the connection that should have made them enemies, the teens instead unite to face their other common denominator―their abductors. Noelle and Evan survive one sadistic circumstance after another, eventually making a harrowing escape. But every happy ending comes at a price…
Years later, Evan, now a private investigator, revisits the crime when he learns it may be ongoing. He reaches out to Noelle for help, and they discover that the answers lie with a man known only as the Collector. To close their case and solve the ones that followed, Noelle and Evan must unmask this mysterious spectator―the only man with enough secrets to take their captors down.
I hope you enjoyed reading this week’s edition of Sunday Snippets, my look back at the past week.

I understand completely your frustration with the expense of dental work. I have spent a fortune and now at my age (72) it appears it is time to do quite a bit of it again.
I know most offices close on the weekend but now Friday seems to be considered a weekend. Not at my job though. I’m going to order ALL THE LITTLE RAINDROPS for my precious DIL.
Her birthday is next month and she is an avid reader.
Thank you for the suggestion.
I understand your frustration with the cost of dental care. Through the years I have spent a fortune. Now at my age (72) it seems that some work needs to be redone. Places that were normally closed on the weekend have adopted Friday as well and are closed. Gilda said it best …..It’s always something.
My DIL is an avid reader. I will order ALL THE LITTLE RAINDROPS for her birthday.
I think some pink columbine would also be a good idea. Thank you for the suggestion.
Have a great week.
Simon sounds like a hyper-active child! Lol 🙂
That he is.
Good evening Brenda,
I am sorry to hear about your crown, thankfully you were able to get it fixed in a timely manner.
I love your flower photos!
Have a wonderful week.
My favorite things to photograph are flowers and the kitties.
The pink columbine is so pretty. I have columbine in my butterfly garden but it’s a dark pink, almost mauve.
Ugh on the dental stuff. I’ve never had a crown fall out (yet). My dentist still does crowns the old-fashioned way with the molds. That train going overhead that you mentioned at the dentist’s office would’ve driven me crazy, too. But I could see how it would appeal to children.
Happy Sunday!
When stressed over a crown, the last thing you want is a train that keeps going over your head.
I have lost 3 chewing teeth now…the back ones. Somehow one manages…eats a bit slower, chews more before swallowing. But I am not thin so it has to do. It is very risky getting those bone grafts done, comes from cadavers…and who knows who those people are or how they died. A cousin’s husband recently died. But he had a number of things wrong with him…we shudder thinking of the poor folk who got his donated parts!!! And in spite of what they tell you, yes, you can get diseases, even asthma when you never had it before you had a donated part, even a blood transfusion. We know someone that happened to.
That sounds scary!
😔
I was quoted $6k for a bridge. I’ll just do without it considering no pain and almost 77 years old. I have the money, but do I want to spend it on that? Heck no! My insurance covers no part of a bridge. And I have the same bone loss you do that prohibits an implant.
I wish you well on those issues.
I’ve lived with it since last August. So, guess I’ll live with it some more. Not going to spend that kind of money unless I have to.
Those pink flowers are beautiful! I wonder why the purple ones aren’t doing as well. The petunias are pretty too. I never thought of them as inside out umbrellas, but they kinda do, lol. I’m so sorry about your dental woes! I don’t think anybody likes going to the dentist! Why does something so little have to cost so much? It’s not like they’re building a life size bridge, for goodness sakes. 😋
I hope it’s not causing you any pain. If it’s a hole, does food get stuck in it? I love your Sunday snippets!!
It doesn’t hurt. As long as it doesn’t hurt, I can live with it.
I’m sorry to hear about your tooth. I’ve had that happen too – one fall out. And you wonder for the price why? I’ve had one done twice. I had one done in 1994 and it’s still going strong, yet the newer ones are awful. I will say though, I like that they have it computerized now. They computerized my mouth guard fitting and it was much better than chomping down on that goop for sure! Flowers are so pretty. I’ve always had luck with petunias in AZ!
Yes, I’ve had crowns that have had to be replaced more than once.
