Today, I am sharing with you scenes of nature through my camera lens.

I am truly in my element when I am outdoors with my camera. I try to capture all plants and nature.

Sights I See Through My Camera Lens:

Nothing makes me happier than looking through that little square window and seeing such incredible beauty all around me.

Then photograph them for safekeeping. And, of course, to show you.

In Nature Through My Camera Lens, I saw this bunny hopping around the complex in my neighbor John's yard.

This morning I was thrilled to take photos of this rabbit. At least it was still long enough for me to get a few pictures.

Rabbits tend to freeze when they sense someone or something is close by.

Why Rabbits Freeze:

Wild rabbits are one of the smallest animals in the wild. This requires them to be aware of their surroundings on a near 24-hour basis.

Wild rabbits are thus acutely aware of their surroundings and will sit for long periods to ensure that a predator isn’t going to get the drop on them.” – My Backyard Life

A red male cardinal hopping across the rocks

Then, over by Ron and Pat’s yard, this male cardinal was hopping around the rocks. He’s so pretty decked out in bright red.

I haven’t glimpsed his mate yet. I’m sure she’s nearby, blending in with the foliage as nature intended.

In Nature Through My Camera Lens, this is a hosta plant I planted near the big rock in my yard

Hosta Plants:

I wanted to get my two hosta plants in the ground around this huge rock before it got hot.

So yesterday, I took my little garden cart out there and dug through roots and rocks to dig a hole. It wasn’t easy, and I paid somewhat for it later. But hosta plants like to spread.

I’m still not sure I got my holes big enough. Maybe I should go back out there and dig down around the hole further.

I probably should have planted them in pots, but I thought they would be so pretty by the big rock.

In many ways, I dislike this upper yard, which is not at all easy to manage. But then again, the trees and rocks are soothing to look at from my chair.

That rock I settled them around is probably 3-4 feet wide and half that much longer.

In Nature Through My Camera Lens, this is one of the two water features I have on my patio among my container plants

The Soothing Sounds Of Water:

What is a nature scene without flowing water? Here is a photo of one water feature with plants in the background.

The sound of water is incredibly soothing when I sit outdoors on my covered patio, taking in the sights around me.

Ivy sleeping in a corner of my couch with her toy near her. She looks so sweet as she sleeps.

Lastly, here is a photo of Ivy napping with her toy in front of her. Sometimes, she likes to sleep with her paw covering her face.

My precious Ivy Lou.

Missing Little Gracie Mae:

I am still so terribly sad about losing little Gracie. But at least I have my plants to enjoy outside and Ivy to love inside. I will mourn that sweet kitten forever.

A poem about grief

For Gracie, may you rest in peace, and may you know that I love you.

I hold you in my heart since I can no longer hold you in my arms. The memories remain bittersweet because sorrow still surrounds them.

I’m so glad I had you in my life, even though our time together was short.

I share your passion for photographing nature. Your shots are beautiful, especially the water feature. The hostas do look pretty planted next to the rock. I’m glad you find some peace in your surroundings, while still mourning sweet Gracie.

  2. Your hostas will quickly adapt to their new home, sending their roots down and around any rocks and stones and all around to seek out moisture and nourishment. They will do well, I’m sure. It’s not likely anything much has been planted in that soil around your patio area because of all the concrete blocks and rocks/stones that were probably intended to be a “mulch” to minimize “yard work,” even in such a small space! A potted garden surrounding your patio provides you with all the beauty you need, and slipping in perennials here and there in areas that you can reach will be the cherry on top. Please remember as much as we love seeing your beautiful gardens, you have to take care of you first. The garden will come, but patience is a virtue for a reason. It may not come as quickly as you would like, but it will come, I’m sure Brenda. Keeping yourself healthy and as pain free as possible must be your first priority.

Love the photos…and I think those plants around that rock will be awesome indeed!! So sorry you feel the sadness…I hope it will abate before long…so much of life seems to be a matter of enjoying each moment we can, because so often it is fleeting.

I would love to see a picture of your patio from a wide view to see the context of all your garden plants. It sure is looking lovely close up! Nice job😊

Love your Bunny photo..it would be great blown up for your wall(s) art. Great photograhy.

  6. I love your photos of plants and neighbors yards. Keep them coming!

The picture of the bunny is wonderful. We have them all over our property. I often put scraps of lettuce out for them and carrots. Sure enough they are gone in the morning.

I know your yard isn’t what you’d like it to be but it looks to me as though you are meeting it head on. My patio is in full sun and drives me nuts. Really hard in summer heat of California.

Ivy is such a pretty girl. Every morning now the working whiskers kitty is waiting for me when I go out. I stop and talk to her and she rolls over and over for me. Still hisses at me though when I go in to feed her. Maybe one day!!

    1. I worked outside after I posted this. Steve walked by on his way to his church with tomato plants he’s planting there and said: “It’s looking real floral around here!”

  8. I went outside to go take pics of my orange tulips that come out every yr and they were gone! Some scumbag came on my property and cut them off the stem!

Then I heard a noise about a foot and a half away from me and it was a robin pecking at the ground! I was able to take pics of the robin so close to me with my phone and it wasn’t even flying away! It stayed there for a few mins til it got something in it’s mouth! I’ve never been that close to a bird b4 ever! The other bird kept on chirping letting him know I was close by too!

Have a fantastic day Brenda just enjoying life and nature and of course Ivy and friends!

    1. John across the street had a plant stolen. A neighbor in an upstairs unit said she didn’t know who it was, but she saw the woman walking her dog dig up his plant, replace it with dirt and then carry it away. I hate to think about people living here stealing, but I guess it happens.

  9. Anne Belanus says:

I think your hostas will be fine. Mine are planted under an October Glory maple tree with aggressive, close the the surface roots. I dug holes just big enough to fit the plant. The hostas have spread each year, easily holding their own against the maple tree. Hope yours do the same.

    1. That’s encouraging. Digging rocky ground is hard!

  10. Such beautiful pictures today! Wow, the bunny! I didn’t know they froze like that. Good for you, though, since you had your camera ready! And the bird is beautiful too. Whenever I try to take a picture of a bird, it flies away as soon as it sees me coming, so I always appreciate yours. I miss Gracie too. Hugs to you and Ivy.

    1. Me too. So I take my camera out with me and sit, and when a bird lands I try to photograph it. If it senses movement it’s gone.

  11. Pets, plants, backyard animals and quilts, what could be better? Have a great day everyone!

    1. Thanks. I wish for you the best of days.

  12. I always love seeing glimpses of your quilts! Do you think you might ever take up quilting again?

    1. I wish I could. There’s so much arthritis in my hands, fingers and wrists that I couldn’t quilt. I haven’t been able to quilt since I was around 40, because I was in that car wreck and had those surgeries on my hands, thumbs and neck.

  13. Beautiful pictures of nature…animals and plants. Thank you!
Sweet Ivy as lovely as she can be. You’ll grieve Gracie’s loss for quite awhile but you already know that. Ride that roller coaster while holding your memories in your heart.
    Have a wonderful day, Brenda!

    1. I know. And every single time I see a photo of her or write about her, even think about her, I’m sobbing.

  14. Such pretty pictures today Brenda! I think the red bird might be a summer tanager, not a cardinal. He has no crest but he’s so pretty!

    1. Well, maybe you’re right. When I see a red bird I just think it’s a cardinal.
