This week on Sunday Snippets 5.4.25…

Marley’s Prom:

My granddaughter Marley went to her prom with a group of her girlfriends. This is the dress she wore. Isn’t she lovely?

I was that skinny once upon a time, a long time ago.

Two more years of high school are left, and then Marley is off to college. Her brother Riley is graduating this month.

Broken Temporary Crown:

I made the mistake of eating a crispy crouton on a salad I made, breaking the temporary dental crown in the back of my mouth.

On Thursday, I had to go back to the dentist and have them make another one. Thank goodness they didn’t charge me for it after I already paid for the expensive crown. I should get the permanent crown on May 9.

I have a feeling I’m going to need more dental work this year. I’ve got other sore teeth in my mouth. It’s all so expensive.

Kendra had to spend $10,000 on dental work in 2024. Neither of us has dental insurance, so we really feel the cost of trying to keep our teeth in decent shape.

I already pay around $500 for Medicare and supplemental insurance. But I’m going to look into possibly getting a supplemental for dental insurance.

What’s Going On With The Cats:

The other day, I found another length of door weatherstripping that Simon seems intent on ripping off the laundry room door to play with. It’s an inside door, so the weatherstripping isn’t even necessary.

That boy finds lots of mischief to get into. He likes to take the pieces of weatherstripping and hide them under the dining room rug.

Greg said Simon doesn’t look very removed from a panther. And that Ivy seems to enjoy keeping the kittens in line.

Daisy makes the funniest sounds when she sees birds or bugs. It’s as though she wants to ensure I’m aware of what’s happening. She gets an intense look when she sees light shafts on the wall at different times of the day. So does Ivy.

Ivy seems to have commandeered the front bedroom and the blue TV room. These days, she tends to nap in one of these rooms. Then she’ll change things up and nap in my bedroom.

The three feral cats I feed don’t look like they miss many meals, since all the neighbors feed them.

BunBun The Rabbit:

On Wednesday, when Maria had cleaned the house and was driving away, she took a photo of a big black-and-white rabbit she saw in my yard and sent it to me.

I asked Smitty if he knew where the rabbit came from, as the rabbit was much bigger than a wild rabbit. He said a woman moved about three years ago and left the pet rabbit named BunBun behind. So he kind of belongs to all of us.

What is the matter with people? Why are they so irresponsible? How can you just leave a pet behind? They’re a part of your family.

Smitty said all the neighbors leave treats out for BunBun. After three years outside, I suppose BunBun is probably no longer considered domesticated and wouldn’t like being indoors again. He’s one big rabbit.

My neighbors are very good to the wild animals outdoors. They make sure they are fed and have a warm place to sleep.

The black-and-white cat named Killvester likes to sleep in one of the chairs on my front porch. He and the two orange-colored cats come to eat when I feed them each morning.

The Sound Of Freedom Movie:

Last week, I watched The Sound Of Freedom with Jim Caviezel.

Amazon Prime Video

What It’s About: After rescuing a boy from ruthless child traffickers, a federal agent learns the boy’s sister is still captive and decides to embark on a dangerous mission to save her.

With time running out, he quits his job and journeys deep into the Colombian jungle, putting his life on the line to free her from a fate worse than death.

There’s a lot of suspense and action in this movie.

The Business Of Human Trafficking:

In the U.S., child sex trafficking is a pervasive and underreported crime, and one of the most complex forms of child exploitation.

  • Human trafficking is the 2nd most extensive criminal trade in the world after arms.
  • 40.3 million people are living as slaves worldwide, 5 times the population of Switzerland.
  • Human trafficking is the fastest-growing illicit trade in the world.
  • Globally, the average cost of a โ€œslaveโ€ โ€“ a trafficked human being โ€“ is $90.
  • Human trafficking generates over $150 billion in profits every year.
  • The U.S. accounts for almost 52% of global human trafficking, with the sex trafficking of minors accounting for the most significant percentage.
  • Traffickers make over $9.5 billion annually in the U.S. alone.

One in four victims of human trafficking is a child. The younger the child is, the more profit a trafficker makes. Approximately 130 people are trafficked worldwide every hour, and most of them are children. Over one million children are trafficked for the sex trade every year.

Some children forced into human trafficking are as young as 4 years old. Some are toddlers. A trafficker approaches 1 in 3 children who run away from home within 48 hours of their running away.

What sad and gruesome facts these are to try to digest. It’s pretty sobering. I know no one wants to read this data. But I think it’s important that we know what’s going on out in the world to these precious children.

We may not be able to save them, but we should at least be aware of and acknowledge their suffering.

What I’m Watching:

I began watching Alert: Missing Persons Unit this past week after I finished with Bosch: Legacy.

Alert: Missing Persons Unit is an American police procedural television series.

Premise: Jason Grant (Scott Caan) and Nikki Batista (Dania Ramirez) investigate cases for the Philadelphia Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit (MPU). At the same time, they try to find their own missing son.

What I’m Reading:

Amazon

They’ve taken your friend, but only to get to you. What do you do?

In An Honest Lie, Lorraineโ€”โ€œRainyโ€โ€”lives at the top of Tiger Mountain. Remote, moody, cloistered in pine trees and fog, itโ€™s a sanctuary, a new life. There, she can hide from the disturbing past she wants to forget.

If sheโ€™s allowed to.

When Rainy reluctantly agrees to a girlsโ€™ weekend in Vegas, sheโ€™s prepared for an exhausting parade of shots and slot machines. But after a wild night, her friend Braithe doesnโ€™t return
to the hotel room.

And then Rainy gets a text message from Braitheโ€™s phone: Someone has her. But Rainy is who they really want, and she knows why.

Mention:

I was asked to describe what I consider Cafe Core for the Redfin website. Redfin is inclusive of Rent.com and ApartmentGuide.com.

My remarks are in Cafe Core: Bring Coffee Shop Aesthetic Into Your Home.

I hope you enjoyed reading what’s been happening here with the three kitties and me in this week’s Sunday Snippets 5.4.25.

  1. Take a look at Cigna Plus Savings Program for dental discounts. My husband and I have used it for about 3 years now and it’s saved us a good deal of money. It is not an insurance plan but it is a plan that provides discounts at dental offices that will accept the plan. The discounts are generous and one of the top dentists in our small city takes the plan so it’s been a real help to us. Contact info: CignaPlus Savings, 8100 S.W. 10th Street, Suite 2000, Planatation, FL 33324. Telephone 1-877-521-0244.

Marley looks so beautiful in her prom dress!

My mom goes to a dental school to have all her dental work done, since she doesn’t have dental insurance and has been having a lot of extensive work done. Yes, they take longer to work on your mouth since they’re still in training (and all overseen by licensed dentists), but it’s a fraction of the cost at a regular dentist. You might want to look into that.

  3. Marley indeed looked lovely in her beautiful dress! I hope she had a wonderful time.
It’s so ridiculous that dental care isn’t included with medical insurance. You need it for good health for heaven’s sake.

    Happy Sunday evening Brenda,

I am sorry about your temporary crown. Dental work is so expensive even with insurance as most of the work is not covered for some reason. That said, look into it because they do pay a little and hopefully it will be for the things that you need to have done.
Your kittens and Ivy sound like they are keeping you on your toes. As for Bun Bun, what kind of a person leaves a pet outside in the wilderness? At least he is still alive. I read recently that rabbits spend most of their lives underground and hares spend most of their lives above ground.
Marly, looks lovely. I hope that she had a wonderful time at the prom. They grow up so fast!
The human trafficking statistics are frightening and so sad.
    Have a wonderful week.

  5. Brenda, love Marley’s dress such a beautiful color. She’s a beautiful girl. Simon is your Dennis the Menance ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Your grand daughter is beautiful. They grow up way to fast!

  7. Marley is beautiful! I hope she has a lot of fun with her friends! Iโ€™m sorry about your tooth. Thereโ€™s nothing pleasant about dental work. Iโ€™m sorry your mouth is in pain. I donโ€™t understand why dental work isnโ€™t part of regular insurance. Same with vision. Those policies have to be purchased separately. Your cats are adorable! I never tire of hearing about them!

  8. I love your stories on how Ivy and the kittens are getting to know each other. I agree with the others, Marley is beautiful and her dress is gorgeous and so tasteful. I hope she had a wonderful time. You must be so proud! Have a wonderful week all!

  9. Oh my gosh! Marley is absolutely beautiful and her dress is so tasteful and stunning!

PS. Your granddaughter is a very pretty girl!! May she always be safe.

    1. I do worry about her out in this scary world we now live in.

  11. Elizabeth says:

My understanding is that a great many children were trafficked that came in via the southern border prior to it being more shut down. It is one of my biggest worries having grandchildren and even my daughters…who are both unmarried and on their own. I so wish it was shut down. But too many people somehow “connected” evidently do not want that to happen. Then there are those like 2 of my grandchildren whose own dad has molested them and so far gotten away with it entirely, tho the kids are teens now. My daughter has yet another court date this month trying to get things safer for her children. Prayers are so appreciated for them!! Very evil world we live in really. We pray that GOD will send the Messiah soon to clean up this world!!

    1. It’s hard to believe that your daughter is STILL dealing with him!

  12. I see the bunny is Bunbun. That is a perfect name for a bunny.

  13. Marley is absolutely beautiful and she chose a lovely, modest dress. I love seeing girls go to prom in a group of friends instead of bowing to pressure to couple up at that young age. Thereโ€™s plenty of time for that. My daughtersโ€™ always had prom and homecoming dates but went in girl groups to the Valentine dances. They had the most fun at those. And back then, they didnโ€™t show up half naked as seems to be the trend now! Must be the Oscars influence. Donโ€™t you just cringe at what you see there? Horrible role models!

    1. I’ve never seen Marley dressed in anything that wasn’t conservative. She doesn’t seem to want to bare all like so many girls her age. I’ve never even seen holes in her jeans!

      1. Marley has self respect, thatโ€™s why! โค๏ธ

  14. What a gorgeous granddaughter and dress! The name Bobbon is fun for a rabbit. I would tell the students when I taught I used the money for bonbons and bubblebaths. They did not know what bonbons are. They did not know who Willie Nelson is and we lived in Texas.

    1. I see it is Bunbun. That is cuter.

    2. We’re a dying breed. So many things the younger generation has absolutely no knowledge of.

    Your granddaughter is beautiful.
    Her dress fits her perfectly
Your kitties seem so happy. The outside cats are lucky to have you feeding them.

    1. Her mother took her to many shops until they found a dress she would agree to buy. She doesn’t like shopping much.

  16. First let me say that you have a beautiful grand daughter!
I love seeing and reading all about your beautiful cats. I am so glad they get along with each other.

    1. I just now heard Simon running through the house, and a dining room chair getting knocked over. As Greg says, this place has a lot of free entertainment.
